Junior FIRST® LEGO® League
About the Program:
This Year’s Challenge is “Creature Craze”: FIRST ® LEGO® League Jr. is a fun, hands-on program that is the result of an exciting alliance between FIRST and the LEGO Group. The program is designed to introduce concepts in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children while engaging them in a brand they know and love — LEGO®. Each season, two or more adult Coaches guide teams of two to six children to explore a new Challenge — a real-world scientific topic such as food safety, recycling, or energy. Teams construct a motorized model of what they have learned using LEGO® elements. They also create a Show Me poster that illustrates their journey of discovery. In the process, teams learn about teamwork, the wonders of science and technology, and the FIRST ® LEGO® League Jr. Core Values, which include respect, sharing, and critical thinking.
Children get to:
- Design and build a challenge-related model using LEGO components
- Create a Show Me Poster and practice presentation skills
- Explore challenges facing today’s scientists
- Discover real-world math and science
- Begin developing teamwork skills
- Choose to participate in expos and showcases
- Engage in team activities guided by FLL Jr. Core Values
